Whose is the fence at the bottom of our garden seperating our garden from the neighbours garden.?

The fence at the bottem of our garden is in need of being replaced,how can we decide if this fence is our fence our neighbours fence or if this fence is the responsibility of us and our neighbour, who should have to pay for a new fence,us them or us both?
