You make a post-trial motion for a new trial and if that doesn't work, you see whether there's any money for an appeal. BTW, appeals are not included on the cost of the defense at trial and attorneys do not work for free. Once the post-trial motions have been decided, the attorney's obligation to the client is usually at an end.
