Ever hold a grudge against the wrong person?

A grudge is a very strong emotion, and the longer you hold a grudge against a person the harder it is to forgive them. What if you found out that your grudge you held was based on a misunderstanding between you and the person you hated so much or a rumor someone told you, just separate you from that person? Would the hate go away, or would you need time to forgive? Could you forgive that person entirely, even if you wrongfully hated that person? A person can have their character permanently damaged by a loaded question or an accusation even without proof.
