The answer is calculated as follows. 10 * 2 = 20 feet for the distance between trees plus 1 foot on either side add another 2 feet which is 22 feet. Now you could have considered 26 an answer by calculating it in a similar Fashion. However, when we give dimensions of a rectangle we normally speak of them in l X w so the first number represents the length and 22 the corresponding correct calculation.
