Was Osama Bin Laden created by the US and wrongfully killed by them?

Was Osama Bin Laden really evil? He was a religious man who was empowered and armed by the US to stop the USSR from controlling Afghanistan? Was it really his fault that he was made "public enemy number one" or was it the media and fanatics that created this image of him? Was it really him that was behind the terrorism? Was he just a scapegoat? Should he have been arrested and tried in a legal court of law?
