My religion teacher gave me detention for not valuing god enough, is this okay?

i don't think she should put herself above you because she has faith and you do not. but instead of an off-the-cuff remark, you should have just wrote, i do not believe in God. then you might have an argument. but as it is, your remark came off as sarcastic and rude, whether you meant it that way or not.
